Jesus’ Baptism is a shocking turn of events, given John the Baptist’s message – that judgement was coming. When Jesus comes to be baptized himself, the message is that Jesus will stand in solidarity with sinners and not against them. And it is here, when Jesus is identifying himself with the penitent and the poor in spirit, that the Trinity is revealed for the first time in Luke’s Gospel. Surely we need to see that God is revealed whenever LOVE stands ready to do good, to free the oppressed, to forgive the repentant sinner. Luke chapter 3.
