Peter writes with a warm pastoral tone, full of encouragement, as he addresses Christians scattered over a wide area. Their basic struggle is to live for God in the midst of a society ignorant of the true God, so they are misunderstood and subjected to cruel treatment. Peter’s purpose is to help early believers see their temporary suffering in the full light of the coming eternal glory. In the midst of discouragement, the sovereign God will keep them and enable them by faith to have joy. There are so many ways in which the lessons Peter teaches, pertain to our struggles today. Join us for this weekly study.
